AITO × Superior: Authentic Finnish Sauna, Delivered with Care

AITO × Superior: Authentic Finnish Sauna, Delivered with Care

Quality Above All

In sauna, quality isn’t a slogan—it’s the whole experience. From how the benches hold heat to how fresh air moves through the room, every detail shapes what you feel. That’s why Superior Sauna & Steam has partnered with AITO—a Finnish brand founded by the team behind Helsinki’s famed public sauna, Löyly—to bring truly authentic, high-performance saunas to North America.

“We wanted to create a real Finnish, high-quality sauna experience for the world to enjoy,” says Jasper, AITO’s founder. “Too many saunas outside Finland look nice in photos but don’t function well. We’re here to change that.”

From Löyly to Living Rooms: AITO’s Origin Story

AITO was born from a simple pattern Jasper kept seeing: people loved the ritual at Löyly and kept asking for a home version that felt the same—honest heat, beautiful materials, and a room that works.

Function first

“If you’re sitting with your feet on the floor, your head is hot and your feet are cold,” Jasper notes. “Benches must be elevated. Hot air rises. It’s basic physics.”

Ventilation, not exhaustion

“People think they’re tired because it’s hot. Often they’re just low on oxygen. You need a high outlet and a low inlet so gravity does the work. In Finland, the vent stays open. Always.”

Relaxation over performance

“A sauna isn’t a place to achieve a number on a timer,” Jasper adds. “Listen to your body. The health benefits are greater when you actually relax.”

AITO’s products carry that mindset forward—Finnish minimalism, nature-forward views, and a build that’s meant to last decades.

Built Different: Why AITO Uses CLT

AITO’s signature construction uses CLT (cross-laminated timber), a structural wood technology that dramatically increases stability and longevity.

“CLT kills wood movement—no warping, no twisting,” says Jasper. “We’ve even seen CLT resist open flame where conventional builds would fail. It’s incredibly durable and perfect for a sauna that should last for decades.”

CLT also enables clean lines and generous glazing, so you can place the sauna outdoors and bring the sky, trees, and seasons right into the session—exactly how Finns prefer it.

Culture, Not Just Hardware

Ask Jasper what AITO wants to bring to the U.S., and he talks less about specs and more about spirit:

“In Finland, sauna is everyday life—as normal as dinner. It’s peaceful, secular, communal. You don’t chase a time or a temperature; you let go. I want to help people here experience that.”

He’s already seen the demand—from homeowners to athletes to creatives. (Jasper smilingly mentions public sightings of AITO in celebrity feeds and a proud install for NBA All-Star Lauri Markkanen, a Finn who knows the real thing.) AITO also “crash-tests” its designs in high-traffic settings like Löyly, where an AITO door is opened 800–1,000 times a day and keeps performing. Authentic and commercial-tough.

How the Partnership Works

(and Why It Works)

Great products need great partners. AITO brings Finnish design, engineering, and cultural fidelity. Superior brings North American consultation, logistics, and care—so your AITO arrives and lives exactly as intended.

The Superior Difference

We don’t force a template. We work within AITO’s product suite to match the right model to the right setting:

  • Footprints for homes (smaller outdoor formats, drop-in ready)

  • Larger contrast suites for boutique hotels, luxury resorts, and spas

  • Nature-forward placements (rooftops, courtyards, lakeside decks) that honor AITO’s “bring the outside in” ethos

Then we handle the rest—one-to-one needs assessment, clear recommendations, and turnkey help:

Design Consult: Layout, bench elevation, and Finnish-standard ventilation.

Budget-Fit Guidance: Choose the AITO that meets your goals and your numbers.

Delivery & Install Support: Crane drops, site coordination, power/heater guidance.

Service & Care: Training, upkeep, and a responsive team for the long haul.

“Work has to be fun and uncomplicated,” Jasper says. “From our first call, Superior felt like the right match—good people who make it easy.”

Electric or Wood?

(Both—Done Right)

“Wood-burning is the original,” Jasper says. “The heating ritual is part of the joy. But in cities or busy lives, electric is practical—and in Finland we’ve used electric for decades. There’s no ‘right’ answer; there’s only well-built.”

Whichever path you choose, AITO’s insistence on elevated benches, proper air flow, and heater quality ensures sessions feel even, breathable, and restorative—day after day, year after year.

AITO Spotted in the Real World

From celebrity estates in the Hollywood Hills to retreats on the shores of Ibiza, AITO has found its home in some truly remarkable places. Each installation is a reflection of our commitment to authentic design and timeless sauna tradition.

Pop-Up to Permanent: Bringing Authentic Sauna to U.S. Cities

AITO and Superior are aligned on making real sauna more accessible—beyond backyards and into urban life. We’re collaborating on upcoming sauna village pop-ups in U.S. cities (with plans for D.C. and New York), designed to introduce thousands to the Finnish way. If the stars align, some will stay longer-term—a civic sauna experience with cultural roots.

“A sauna village would crush in New York,” Jasper says. “People are hungry for this. The moment they feel it, they get it.”

Who AITO Is For

Design-minded homeowners who want the real Finnish experience, outdoors, with nature in view.

Boutique hotels, resorts, and wellness clubs that need commercial-durable builds with cultural integrity.

Athletes and performance environments where recovery, breathing, and heat quality matter.

AITO isn’t the cheapest box with a heater. It’s the Range Rover of sauna—the one that feels correct, works correctly, and keeps doing so for decades.

A Final Word from Jasper

“The sauna is peace and presence—a secular, shared ritual where stress and devices stay outside. If we can help people in the U.S. experience that—not as a performance, but as a human habit—then this partnership is doing what it should.”
