Raising the Bar: Superior Sauna & Steam and Thermory USA Launch the Mod6 Sauna

In the world of sauna, quality is everything. From the feel of the bench under your fingertips to the heat retention of the walls, every element affects your experience. That’s why Superior Sauna & Steam and Thermory USA have joined forces to create something truly exceptional: the Mod6 Sauna.

Built in Ashland, Wisconsin, using Thermory’s premium thermally modified wood, the Mod6 is more than a modular sauna—it’s a statement in craftsmanship, sustainability, and design. The collaboration combines Thermory’s global reputation as the world’s largest producer of sauna-specific wood materials with Superior’s decades of sauna-building expertise to create a product that sets a new standard for prefab sauna quality.

“We’re in this sweet spot between cheap prefab and overly complex custom builds,” says Bobby Reid, Thermory USA’s Sauna Director. “The Mod6 installs in under an hour, is insulated with eco-friendly sheep’s wool, and uses the highest-quality sauna woods in the world – there’s really nothing like it on the market.”

From Estonia to Ashland: A Partnership Built on Trust

Thermory has been producing sauna wood in Estonia for generations, where sauna culture runs deep. Their U.S. presence began in 2012, but it was during the pandemic, when home wellness surged, that Thermory turned its focus toward the American sauna market.

Through shared projects and mutual respect, Thermory and Superior formed a relationship that grew beyond simple supply agreements. From installing Mod prototypes together at events like FinFest to swapping design ideas in the shop, both teams saw the potential for a truly collaborative product.

“It’s more than a business agreement,” Reid explains. “It’s like family. Everyone, from David down to the build crew, works together as if we’re one company. That’s exactly how the wellness industry should be.”

Superior Sauna’s Head of Creative and Director of Marketing, Colin Cabalka, remarks,

“What I love most about working with Thermory is that our collaboration happens on every level - whether we’re literally sitting on a bench together testing the product, or meeting remotely as marketing teams to align on the Mod6 launch. It’s a true creative partnership that blends our strengths, sharpens the product, strengthens the brand, and ultimately delivers results we’re both proud of. I am so proud of the leadership at Superior, working to solidify our position in the market by prioritizing our relationships with the Thermory team, and sourcing some of the best materials in the thermally modified lumber category.”

Design That Fits Your Life

The Mod6 comes in two distinctive styles:

  • Traditional Mod6 – Warm, classic, and inviting, with Thermo Spruce interiors and the option for Social (L-shaped) or Athletic (face-to-face) benching.

  • Modern Mod6 – Sleek and minimalist, with Thermo Alder interiors and bold black exterior cladding. Also has the option for Social (L-shaped) or Athletic (face-to-face, flip-up) benching.

Both are designed with intentional details: strategic heater placement for more seating, aesthetic ceiling paneling that feels like a Scandinavian retreat, and the ability to host 6–8 people comfortably.

And when it comes to assembly, the Mod6 is in a league of its own. Precision-milled wood joinery makes it easy to connect all the parts, with a proprietary system that uses a few packages of fasteners instead of the hundreds or even thousands you’d find in typical prefab kits. This patented technology not only speeds installation—it ensures a tighter, more durable fit for the life of the sauna.

Why This Matters

Prefab saunas in the U.S. have historically been either low-quality imports or complicated, time-consuming builds. The Mod6 changes that. It ships flat, installs in hours, and delivers a premium sauna experience right out of the box—no compromises on heat performance, durability, or beauty.

This isn’t just any prefab. It’s cutting-edge modular engineering, paired with heirloom-level craftsmanship. The result is a sauna that’s as easy to assemble as it is to love.

And this is just the start. Both teams are looking ahead to consider expansion of the line with additional sizes, customizations and heating options.
